SUPPORT DVSA
The vitality and continued success of the Dundas Valley School of Art is made possible through the generous support of its donors, students, members, alumni and volunteers. Ongoing support allows DVSA to provide high quality art education at an accessible and affordable level for the entire community.
"The act of philanthropy is a spiritual act, an expression
of caring for one's fellow human beings. It is a belief in the future
and that the future can be good. It is investing in that future.
It is helping to make the dream come true."
Arthur Frantzreb
How to support the DVSA
NEWS! Make a Donation of Stock or Mutual Funds and Save Taxes!
Canada's tax incentives for charitable donations help you support your favourite charities - including DVSA. In May 2006, the Federal government made it especially attractive to donate eligible stocks or mutual funds instead of cash. For such securities that have grown in value and thus have an inherent capital gain, the new securities donation rules create a "win-win" situation for both donors and their favourite charities.
All investors must dispose of stock and other securities at some point - whether during their lifetime or upon their death. If your securities are sold for cash, you or your estate will pay the Federal government what could be a sizable tax amount if significant capital gains are realized. But if you donate eligible securities directly to DVSA instead of selling them, you will eliminate the capital gains tax and will also get a tax-deductible receipt for the full market value of your securities (instead of only for the after-tax cash value). And you need no cash to make such a donation! Eligible securities are publicly-traded stocks (including Canadian and US stocks) or mutual funds. How you structure your charitable donations can be as important as the amounts you give, both to you and to the charity.
How You Save By Donating Securities - Talk to DVSA soon about how you might structure your donations in ways that can maximize the financial benefits of your gift for DVSA as well as the tax benefits to you. DVSA would require securities donations to have a market value of at least $250. For more information please call us at 1-905-628-6357. DVSA also encourages you to contact your personal financial advisor before making any substantial gift.
"Seeing Is Believing" ~ Annual Fundraising Campaign
Any gift - large or small - will enhance the financial well being of DVSA. Money raised from the campaign goes directly into programming, upgrading facilities and equipment replacement.
"BARRIER FREE CAMPAIGN"
DVSA faces the challenge of a wonderful heritage home building with a diverse community or artists and participating students. To meet the challenges of accessibility, old utilities, and new student spaces, a campaign has been undertaken for capital investment.
The Barrier Free campaign addresses accessibility by way of an elevator and requires $300,000. The installation of an elevator will make the building accessible for physically challenged students, and for many others, for whom the building’s steep staircases pose a dangerous and daunting challenge.
The Dundas Valley School of Art gratefully acknowledges the support for the Barrier Free Campaign to April 2009 of:

Volunteers are always needed in the following: Classes (teenage and older assistants for children's classes), Special Events (Annual Art Auction, Dundas Arts Weekend, Cactus Festival, etc.), Administration, Dofasco Gallery (assisting the gallery curator in organizing and hanging shows, painting walls, etc.), Maintenance (occasional electricians, plumbers, carpenters, painters, etc.)
Areas to Support
Building Improvement Initiative
With an annual registration of over 4,200 students, the facility and studio equipment are generally in need of replacement and/or upgrades in order for DVSA to function as a leading art school. Funds raised from generous contributions are dedicated to the current needs of the building, which include: an elevator, heating system, air conditioner, pottery kilns, digital media lab and furniture.
Children & Teen Programming
Art is an essential component for balanced, healthy children in our community. This is the driving force behind the high quality art education that the DVSA offers for children between the ages of 2-15. In a nurturing and positive environment children are encouraged to explore, express and create.
Children's Bursary Fund
The visual arts benefit children by empowering them and helping them to recognize their own self worth. By sending a child who is economically, socially and/or culturally restricted, to art school, allows them the opportunity to heighten their self-esteem by allowing them a creative outlet for self-expression. Other benefits include skill development in areas such as problem solving, self-discipline and responsibility, personal fulfillment through productivity and an increase in motivation to learn. Ultimately, participation in the visual arts tends to improve the overall academic performance of children.
Library & Resource Centre
The DVSA houses an excellent library full of books and videos for students to use. It is a service that is primarily driven by volunteers and donations. Over the years, the resource centre has grown and the DVSA is in need of expanding.
Special Events
The DVSA hosts a number of special events and fundraisers throughout the year that require sponsorship. These events include the Annual Art Auction, Art in the Yard, Appraisal Day and the Estate Sale.
The Dundas Valley School of Art would like to thank you for your consideration. If you require more information on ways that you can help support the school, please contact:
