Faculty

Our faculty members are practicing artists with professional experience in the arts. They are committed to providing a supportive and lively atmosphere for the exchange of ideas through team teaching, while teaching ideologies that serve the diversity of the community. Visiting artists, teachers and students complement the three main faculty members.

John Wilkinson
Director of Full-Time Studies

I have primarily been a painter all my life, although my work has involved many different disciplines and modes of presentation. Whatever direction my work has taken over the years, the excitement of seeing, combined with the other senses, stirs me to create and create again. My formative years have never left me. The things that I grew to love, the influences upon me continue to echo in some way from work to work, from idea to idea. Where I've lived too has been reflected in my work whether the environment be sublime or ugly and/or disturbing. My visual arts education began at Medway College of Art in undergraduate study and continued in graduate study at the Royal Academy Schools in London, England. My teaching experience in many art colleges and universities in the UK and here in Canada has continually provided me with a context for discussions around the visual arts and consistent opportunities to creatively resolve problems with students and colleagues.

Tim Domoslai

Raised in rural Saskatchewan, much of my childhood was spent exploring the world around me. This interest in space and materials has played a major role in my professional careers. A creative sense of discovery and play remains a vital aspect of my art practice and my approach to teaching. I have recently completed a Masters Degree in Fine Art at the University of Guelph. The focus which developed within my studio practice is an interest in my relationship and impact on the landscape which surrounds me. This interest has carried forward from my previous work in my Bachelors of Fine Art degree at the University of Regina and my experience in the field of Architectural Engineering. It was during this time that I began to closely explore my relationship to my surroundings.

Susan Detwiler

I grew up in suburban Burlington. As a tomboy I spent my days roaming the wooded area along the Burlington Bay, building makeshift forts and catching snakes. In short, I poked around in nature. It's not surprising that my work as an artist comes from my relationship with the natural environmment. In my formal studes at NSCAD and later at the University of Guelph I explored the processes of drawing, photography, sculpture and printmaking. These varied materials and approaches to art making supplied me with a rich vocabulary for expressing my ideas and experiences. I feel that being an artist is a gift. It provides one with a means to discover things about themselves and the world around them. As an educator I try to inspire and support my students to find these things out for themselves and to develop a critical and inquiring mind and a unique perspective.
