SUMMER TERM Children's' Classes are taught by qualified professional artists with a commitment to encouraging individual creativity and artistic confidence. Course Fees: $112.00 per week of half days, includes materials, unless otherwise stated. $224.00 per week of whole days, includes materials, unless otherwise stated. $90.00 half days week 5 $180.00 whole days week 5 GST is not applicable to children's programs. Times: mornings 9:30 - 12:00 afternoons: 1:00 - 3:30 Enrolment is for one week of half days. If 2 classes are combined for a full day of instruction, lunch supervision will be provided. DVSA will be closed on August 2 for the Civic Holiday. Each day, the students will explore in multi-media, their favourite things such as animals and creatures, sports and activities. ECO ART Ages 4-6 Weeks 7 & 8 PM only Instructor: Kathy Cope, B.Sc. An introduction to the basic elements of design will be explored in connection with the elements of earth, wind, sky and water. CREATE A PLAY Week 8 Ages 4 - 6 AM or PM***Week 8, morning & afternoon, FULL*** Instructor: Alana Didur, AOCAD In this unique course, students collaborate to create a story, paint a mural, build puppets and masks, make and record sounds and music, and perform an original play for friends and family on the last day of class! WILD AND WACKY WEEK Ages 4-6 Week 9 AM only Instructor: Tina Destro, B.A. Curious young minds will explore and experiment with the wacky world of Dada, the Surrealist art of Magritte and Dali, Cubist Collage and much more. ART IN A BOX Ages 4-6 Weeks 5 & 9 AM only Instructor: Kathy Cope, B.Sc. In this week, each child will receive a box of art supplies to create with. Emphasis is on individual creativity. A WORLD OF MY OWN Ages 4-6 Weeks 5 & 9 PM only***Week 9, FULL*** Instructor: Kathy Cope, B.Sc. Students will create people, places and things and assemble them in a world of their own. ART TIME Ages 4-6***Week 6, morning, FULL*** Week 6 AM or PM Instructor: Rae Bates Time for kids to experiment and create with clay, paints, pastels, papers and more. Songs and stories are part of the fun. SUMMER DREAM STUDIO Week 5 Ages 7-9 AM only Week 5 Ages 4-6 PM only Week 9 Ages 7-9 PM only Instructor: Tina Destro, B.A. Students will be encouraged to see the creative possibilities in the objects they see everyday and turn them into fantastic works of art. Artwork that moves, hangs from the ceiling or fills a space on the wall. While learning about many great artists, students will build, draw and paint their way towards an exciting journey. Create different projects each week in mixed media with a dash of art history sprinkled in. ARTZONE AM Ages 10-12 Weeks 7, 8, & 9 PM Ages 7-9 Instructor: Marla Panko, BA, MFA If you get excited about making art, you'll have fun in the Artzone! Painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, printmaking and so much more. We explore different projects each week so you can create all summer long. PLAYING WITH PAPIER MACHÉ AM Ages 10-12***FULL*** Week 6 PM Ages 7-9***FULL*** Instructor: Marla Panko, BA, MFA Students can create masks, animals, figures and more using this 'fun-friendly' medium. 3D CARTOONING Ages 7-12 Week 8 ALL DAY Instructor: Janus, BA /Jerry Hish, DVSA Draw your cartoons with Jerry and then transform them into sculpture with Janus. A full day of sculpting and cartooning, you can't get a better mix than that! CARTOONMANIA Ages 7+ Weeks 5, & 9 AM or PM***Weeks 5 & 6, morning, FULL*** Weeks 6, & 7 AM only Instructor: Jerry Hish, DVSA Have fun learning the basic skills and concepts of cartooning. Content will include drawing animals, expression, actions, and humour. Children are required to bring their own 8 X 10 spiral ringed sketchbook. CARTOONMANIA II Ages 7+ Weeks 6 & 7 PM only Instructor: Jerry Hish, DVSA Another fun filled course for children who just can't get enough cartooning. New lessons and projects have been designed for children who have expressed a special interest in cartooning, and will involve the study of character design for advertising, licensing, a more in depth look at comic strips and computer game creation. WORLD OF WONDERS AM Ages 10-12 Week 5 PM Ages 7-9 Instructor: Marla Panko, BA, MFA Have fun creating your own miniature 3D world! Using an ordinary cardboard box, students will plan, build and paint a small-scale 'diorama'. THE ART EXHIBIT PROJECT AGES 8-12 Week 6 ALL DAY Instructor: Alana Didur, AOCAD Students work as a team to create their own mixed-media art installation for the Dofasco Gallery's annual Children's Art Exhibit. On Friday, at 3:00 pm, family and friends will be invited to the opening celebration. DRAWING AND PAINTING FOR TEENS Ages 12 - 15 Weeks 8 & 9 AM Only Instructor: Joan Van Damme, BA Material Fee: $10.00 Individual skills are sharpened with the introduction of more mature concepts and themes. Each week affords new opportunities both to experiment and to enjoy an in-depth exploration of traditional media with different weekly projects. PHOTOGRAPHY FOR TEENS Ages 12+ Week 5 ALL DAY ***FULL*** Instructor: Peter Karuna, BA, B.Ed. Lab Fee: $30.00 You will learn basic skills in film photography, camera handling and darkroom techniques. Take home your own prints. Request the list of required materials well before the course starts.
