Tina Destro

Artist currently teaching at DVSA, Dundas Montessori School and part-time contracts with area schools. Currently paints commercial and residential murals and specialty finishes.

Teaches:

  • Mixed media art classes for children.

Background / Training:

Holds a BA in Visual Arts from Brock University and a Graphic Design diploma from Mohawk College.  Early art training included studying Art History at Ecole Normale in France under the direction of artist Guy Ducornet.

Exhibitions:

Tina has participated in group exhibitions in Hamilton, St. Catharines, Grand Bend, British Columbia

and California. She has been part of informal shows in Italy and England.

Awards/Activities:

Tina was recognized with the Governor General Award in Drawing at Mohawk College in 1994. She has over 10 years of experience teaching and developing programs for children and has worked at the Art Gallery of Hamilton and The Burlington Art Centre. She also spent five years teaching art programs at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto, women’s shelters and senior facilities.

Inspirations:

For Tina, inspiration comes from those moments when she connects with someone through an art experience – including children who arrive at their first art class crying and then never want to leave.
