John Wilkinson

Practicing artist and faculty member at many colleges and universities in the U.K. and Canada, including the University of Guelph, McMaster, NSCAD, John Moores, the Royal Academy, the Royal College of Art, the University of Toronto and York University.

Teaches:

  • Director of Full-time Studies
  • Teaches a variety of part-time classes

Background / Training:

John completed his undergraduate education at Medway College of Art in Rochester, England, studying with Fred Cuming, David Graham, Ian Simpson and others. He did his postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy in London, England, where he studied principally with William Scott and William Townsend and won the J.M.W. Turner Gold Medal and the Landseer Drawing Prize.

Exhibitions:

John has had solo and group exhibitions in the U.K., Europe, China and North America. His works are found in public and private collections worldwide.

Awards:

John is the recipient of David Murray travel grants and Ontario Arts Council and Canada Arts Council grants.

Inspirations

Among his inspirations, John names a select number of things he can see, hear, smell and touch. He has a respect for the traditions of the past and an excitement for the challenges of the future.
